Sealed by the Spirit

Question:

What does St. Paul mean when he says that we have been sealed with the Spirit? This sounds like eternal security to me.

Answer:

"Sealed" is a metaphor. You can't build doctrine on metaphor. Other passages tell us that the "seal" is conditioned on our response to the Holy Spirit.
